When you hear “Greetings again from Theatreland,” it’s Raving Richard Radio Reviewer introducing his weekly commentary on live theatre—either for plays or concerts—seen on stages both in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
Because of the variety of such events every weekend, plus a 3-minute limitation for pre- sentation on radio, he selects only those shows of special interest, and those he believes would be welcome to the discriminating listeners on KKIM, 1000 a.m. and simulcast on 94.7 f.m., Santa Fe.
In view of this time constraint, Richard (actually, R. M. Spray) gives credit where credit is especially due—to the director, actors, and production staff. His perspective on plays is derived from his own experience in stagecraft, both as actor and director, as well as producer; similarly, as regards concerts, he has a broad background in music—both in performance and composition.
This week marks the start of his 9th year raving about live theatre. Raving is the appro-priate word, as his commentaries always focus on positive aspects of the event, leaving negative critique to the print media.
The objective of his broadcasts and duplication on the internet is to provide information and to encourage attendance by offering brief remarks on the merits of the play and the playwright, the theatre and performance dates where it’s being shown, phone number for reservations, website location, etc.
Randy and Nancy McGriff who stopped in to KKIM to visit with Dewey. Dewey and Randy did a Sports Talk Show together years ago on WCOE The Indiana Sports Leader in Laporte, IN. It has been over 20 years since Dewey and Randy had last seen each other.
